Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Chirp.
Getting Started
How do I create a status page?
Sign up for a free account, click "Create Status Page", enter your project name, and you'll get a public status page at yourproject.status.getchirp.dev instantly.
What are components?
Components represent the different parts of your system that you want to show status for — like "API", "Website", "Database", or "Payments". Each component shows its current operational status.
How do I share my status page?
Your status page is publicly accessible at its subdomain URL. Share the link anywhere — in your app's footer, documentation, or support pages. Pro users can use a custom domain like status.yourcompany.com.
Monitoring
How does uptime monitoring work?
You provide a URL and we check it at regular intervals. If the endpoint returns an error (5xx status) or times out, we automatically create an incident on your status page and notify your subscribers.
How often are checks performed?
Free plan monitors check every 5 minutes. Pro plan monitors check every 1 minute.
What triggers an automatic incident?
An incident is created when your endpoint returns a 5xx HTTP status code or fails to respond within the timeout period. The incident is automatically resolved when the endpoint recovers.
Can I monitor internal or private endpoints?
Chirp monitors URLs from the public internet. Internal endpoints behind a firewall cannot be reached. The URL must be publicly accessible.
Billing
What's included in the free plan?
The free plan includes 1 status page, 5 components, 1 monitor with 5-minute checks, and email notifications. No credit card required.
How much is the Pro plan?
Pro costs $9/month and includes 3 status pages, 10 components per page, 5 monitors with 1-minute checks, custom domains, and branding removal.
How do I cancel my subscription?
You can manage your subscription through the Lemon Squeezy customer portal. Go to Settings in your dashboard to find the link. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your billing period.
Do you offer refunds?
Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy (our Merchant of Record). Refund requests are handled through their support. Generally, refunds are available within 14 days of purchase.
Custom Domains
How do I set up a custom domain?
In your status page settings, enter your desired domain (e.g., status.yourcompany.com). Then add a CNAME record pointing to cname.vercel-dns.com in your DNS provider. SSL is provisioned automatically.
Is SSL included?
Yes. SSL certificates are provisioned automatically through Vercel when you add a custom domain. No manual setup required.
Can I use a root domain?
We recommend using a subdomain (like status.yourcompany.com). Root domains require an A record instead of CNAME, which may not work with all DNS providers.
Email Subscriptions
How do subscribers get notified?
When you create or update an incident, all verified subscribers for that status page receive an email notification with the incident details.
What is double opt-in?
When someone subscribes to your status page, they receive a verification email. They must click the confirmation link before they start receiving notifications. This prevents spam and ensures valid email addresses.
Can subscribers unsubscribe?
Yes. Every notification email includes an unsubscribe link. Subscribers can also visit the unsubscribe page directly.
Account
How do I delete my account?
Email hello@getchirp.dev to request account deletion. We will delete your account and all associated data (status pages, incidents, monitors, subscribers) within 30 days.
Can I export my data?
Data export is not available yet. If you need a copy of your data, contact us and we can assist manually.
Can I change my email address?
Currently, email changes are not supported through the dashboard. Contact us at hello@getchirp.dev and we can update it for you.
